I did this in Maya 6 as a NURBS model. Rendered using the Maya standard render engine. Shadows and reflections are mapped. No raytracing.

not bad for nurbs! :) i assume patch modeling...? i could never get a handle on em! ^^;

ooo. this is good NURBS model, but I use MAX, and there uv'e got bad NURBS tools.. :(
